Who is SEO not suitable for?

Today, SEO promotion is one of the most effective and affordable ways to attract customers for most niches. However, there are areas where SEO will not deliver the expected results. Let's highlight two types of businesses for which SEO optimization may not be the most suitable tool:

  • When the demand for a product or service has not yet been formed. If people are not looking on the Internet for what the company offers, then even high positions in search results will not provide you with traffic.
  • Too much competition. For example, when search results are completely occupied by large players or marketplaces, it becomes almost impossible to compete with them.

An example from the first category: startups and new products. Let's say you want to sell a new brand of smartphones from China in Russia. At the start, there is almost no demand for such devices, and for the request “buy a phone” it is unrealistic to break into the top search engines, since the top ranking is occupied by a large number of large stores and marketplaces with a wider range. In this case, SEO can be used to create content aimed at generating demand, such as publishing reviews, comparisons, and informational articles. Over time, this will help create awareness of your brand, and when demand increases, your site will be ready to attract traffic. However, this is a long-term strategy and results are not guaranteed.

An example of the second category: real estate agencies. In small cities it is still possible to work in this niche, but in large cities, for example, in Moscow or St. Petersburg, it is almost impossible to compete with marketplaces. There are a huge number of properties posted on such platforms, but agencies can only offer a limited number of options. There are also possible ways for SEO here. For example, you can focus on a specific area and publish materials, dividing objects by street. You can also create informational articles about the pros and cons of living in different areas. However, this is a complex task that requires active cooperation between the client and the SEO specialist, and the result will be noticeably worse than in the case of a less competitive niche, for example, home construction.

Who else would we not recommend investing in SEO?

  • If you don't have the opportunity to wait for the result. SEO brings consistent results only after 6-8 months, so if you don’t have time to wait, it’s better to choose other marketing tools.
  • If you have no desire to create a multi-page website. Landing pages are not suitable for full SEO optimization, since to achieve high positions you need pages with various content and detailed information.
  • If the company sells low-profit products with seasonal demand. SEO is an ongoing job that requires effort throughout the year. If you are not sure that your SEO investment will pay off during peak season, there is no point in starting this work.
