When there are guarantees, but they are not there. Manipulations in SEO

Warranties are always an interesting topic. People often demand from specialists that they provide clear guarantees of success. Athletes are asked to guarantee victory, advertisers are asked to guarantee profits from campaigns, and tutors are asked to guarantee students’ admission to universities or successful passing of exams. What do these examples have in common? It is important to understand that the result depends not only on the performer, but also on many other factors. An athlete may not follow the advice of a coach, an advertising campaign may not be interesting to the audience, or a student may be nervous about an exam. Don’t forget about competitors, who often don’t sit idle. But they still require guarantees. What to do? We choose the option of honesty - to explain what can be guaranteed, and only that. For example, you can offer a refund after the first month of work if the client is not satisfied with the quality. But such proposals are rare.

Real guarantees are always a step towards honesty, but there are also imaginary ones that can be misleading. They can be divided into two categories:

1. Direct deception - when they promise anything, but the money is still not returned. This can be either an outright deception (when the performer simply disappears with the money) or a cleverly hidden clause in the contract, where the disclaimer of guarantees is written in fine print.

2. Manipulation is a more common practice. We are talking about working with payment for positions, traffic or leads. We will not discuss methods of boosting traffic or leads, since this is closer to outright deception. Let's talk about more honest work options. The first of them: the performer takes the amount he needs and adds a bonus for traffic (we also offer such a tariff, and we directly say that the bonus can be removed if the client is not interested in additional motivation). The second option is when the contractor sees good potential at the start, sets a low price, quickly pays for itself and then earns more than he works. In one project, they started with 15,000 rubles, and ultimately the costs reached 150,000 rubles, while the results were minimal. There are also those who take the minimum amount, do nothing, and the customer is satisfied, thinking that he is saving. Where the savings are here is difficult to understand, but such examples occur quite often. There are guarantees, the budget is minimal, but there is no result. This is also a form of manipulation.

Manipulation is not always deception. It is rather a play on the uncertainty and fears of clients. A very common practice in a market economy. Everyone wants better conditions, more guarantees and faster results. However, it is worth remembering that SEO is not magic or a fairy tale. This is serious work that requires a lot of effort. And the quality of this work, of course, must be guaranteed by the contractor. However, the results themselves depend on many factors: budget, amount of work, client involvement and, of course, competitors. In some ways, SEO can be compared to a sports team: all professionals, there is a coach, a budget. But does this guarantee victory in the championship? No. A competitor can always appear who will beat you on all fronts. And even if you want to win, no one can guarantee the result.
