SEO research on medical topics: SEO optimization, results, recommendations

We are completing a series of publications devoted to the study of medical topics. In previous articles, we examined in detail various aspects of content design, its structure and technical optimization of sites. We asked ourselves an important question: what allows leading sites to achieve high positions in search results? Our study was an attempt to find an answer to this question.

Part 11 “SEO optimization, results, recommendations”

In previous parts, we looked at many aspects such as content design, technical optimization and the importance of proper structure on medical websites. However, SEO optimization remained the most important issue. We decided to figure out how it affects the site’s position in search results.

When we summed up the results of the study, taking into account all sections, the results were as follows:

The TOP 20 clinics based on the results of our study were close to the ranking results, but there were sites that, despite good results in developing content, were poorly ranked. They did not rank highly, although their sites scored highly in terms of content and technical optimization.

In particular, we noticed that the quality of content on these sites leaves much to be desired. This confirms the fact that even with high-quality content development, SEO optimization is critical to a site's ranking.

After we completed our SEO analysis, we looked at several key factors that differed between the sites that ranked in the TOP and those that failed to rank. We checked the keyword density on the pages of various sites, as well as the optimization of meta tags such as TITLE.

It is important to note that the sites that did not make it to the TOP used keywords that did not quite correspond to the queries for which the site was supposed to be promoted. We also noticed that certain words were used too often, which could be a sign of over-optimization. While on more successful sites the texts were more balanced and relevant to queries.

To assess the quality of content, we analyzed how the texts on the pages differ in length and density of key phrases. Search results leaders usually use texts ranging from 10 to 12 thousand characters, while outsiders are often limited to less than 7 thousand characters, which may indicate insufficient content development.

In addition, we analyzed meta tags such as TITLE. On most sites that did not make it to the TOP, we found errors in the optimization of these tags. Many sites did not use keywords that had the highest volume for relevant queries.

Thus, it becomes obvious that to achieve high positions in search results, it is not enough just to create good content and properly set up technical optimization. The key point remains SEO optimization, which requires an integrated approach and consideration of many factors, such as the correct use of keywords, the balance between content quality and volume, and meta data optimization.

Conclusions

Using the example of a number of sites, we can draw an unambiguous conclusion: even if you have perfectly developed the content on the site and performed technical optimization, but the text does not correspond to queries and is not relevant enough, you should not count on good positions in search results.

In our study, it is difficult to single out a separate assessment for SEO optimization, since this concept includes a lot of factors, and improving one of them will not give a tangible result without a comprehensive study of the others. SEO promotion requires a careful approach to all aspects of the site so that it becomes not only useful for users, but also in demand by search engines.

The main errors that we identified when analyzing sites:

  • Using occurrences of words that blur the relevance of queries;
  • Excessive expansion of text, inclusion of non-target blocks;
  • Spam with keywords;
  • Rare use of keywords;
  • Small volumes of texts or their complete absence;
  • Irrelevant cross-cutting blocks, such as links to other branches.

If you plan to promote your website in search engines, it is important to carefully monitor content quality and SEO optimization. Checking competitors' websites and choosing a competent SEO company or specialists with experience in the medical field will help you avoid common mistakes and achieve positive results.
