SEO research on medical topics: disease pages

We continue the series of publications dedicated to our “Research on Medical Topics”. In previous articles, we discussed the objectives of the study and the approach to analyzing medical websites. Today we will discuss an important aspect - pages of diseases and various symptoms. This break between publications became symbolic, as it arose due to the illness of the author of the study.

Part 7 “Pages of diseases”

Demand for health services often begins with informational requests rather than commercial ones. Basically, users are looking for information about diseases, symptoms, diagnostic methods and treatment. This is an important part of search, since queries of this type make up the bulk of traffic on the Internet, significantly exceeding commercial queries.

As part of the study, we analyzed search results for a large number of information queries related to diseases, their symptoms, methods of diagnosis and treatment.

About the structure of search results

We looked at the distribution of requests among various sites. Some clinics rank better in one of the search engines. For example, certain sites have high rankings in Yandex search, while their visibility in Google is significantly lower.

For analysis, we checked which groups of queries show the best results in Yandex and Google, which made it possible to identify patterns and ranking features.

It is interesting that information sites dominate in Yandex search results, while in Google medical clinics are in the first positions, despite the presence of large information portals in the search results.

Checking the pages of the “Diseases” group

We assessed how clinics design disease pages and what data is provided on them. Most of the clinics we analyzed have sections dedicated to diseases, but not all of them regularly update these pages.

At the same time, clinics that pay attention to these pages are able to collect additional traffic. This is an important element of the strategy that helps attract new users and increase site visibility.

For example, a detailed description of the symptoms of diseases and treatment methods helps not only to increase rankings in search results, but also to strengthen the trust of potential patients in the clinic.

Diagnostic methods and information about the stages of diseases

According to our analysis, most clinics mention diagnostic methods in their articles, which gives visitors clarity about what tests they may need. This is important for building trust in the medical institution, as well as for increasing the transparency of the services provided.

It is also worth noting that 42% of clinics share information about the various stages of diseases, which allows us to form a more complete understanding of the disease and its treatment. This also increases the authority of the clinic in the eyes of the patient.

E-E-A-T Rules and the Importance of Health Information

Content on medical sites must meet E-E-A-T (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) requirements, which is especially important for medical-related sites. This means that the materials must be written by experts with appropriate qualifications and supported by reliable sources.

However, few clinics list authors and sources of information on their disease pages, reducing the potential of their content in search engines. Only 20% of sites indicate the authors of materials, and 11% use links to sources.

How to Improve Disease Pages

In order to improve the quality of content on disease pages, it is important not only to provide comprehensive information about symptoms and treatment methods, but also to ensure convenient text design, with subheadings and graphic materials. Expert videos can also improve behavioral factors and increase site credibility.

Don’t forget that disease pages can bring traffic not only at the local level, but also at the national level. This creates additional opportunities to attract new patients and strengthen the clinic’s online presence.

Finally, developing disease sections requires attention to the quality of the content and compliance with all necessary requirements, such as identifying authors and reviewers, as well as sources.
