We conducted a comprehensive SEO audit of websites of veterinary clinics in Minsk, selecting 29 sites located on the first pages of search results in popular search engines. The research results and conclusions are presented below.
Before moving on to the main findings, let's look at the search demand for veterinary services:
As the analysis shows, the search query “vet clinic” is used much more often than the query “veterinary clinic,” which indicates a growing interest in such services, although not at a rapid pace. It is worth noting that this is only data for one search engine, and in reality the demand may be even higher, since most users may be looking for specific services, such as sterilization, vaccination and others, and not the clinic itself.
Now let's move on to a detailed analysis of the audit:
Most of the sites on our list are over 6 years old. However, 17% of sites are relatively new, no more than 2 years old at the time of the study.
Recommendations: If your site or domain is new, you should pay special attention to SEO, as more mature competitors may be gaining advantages in search engines. Read on to find out exactly how to improve SEO.
41% of sites do not have a Robots.txt file, and 62% of sites contain duplicate home pages, which can create problems with indexing. Duplicate pages can negatively impact your site's visibility in search engines.
Recommendations: Check the number of pages that search engines see by entering the command “site:yoursite.by” into Google. For Yandex, you can check through Yandex.Webmaster. If there is a significant difference in results between search engines (more than 10%), this may be a sign of indexing problems that need to be corrected.
Most sites have fewer than 100 domains linking to them. The average number of links per site is 93.
Recommendations: Even if you have 50 or 300 other resources linking to your site, it is important to continue building your link mass. Do this gradually, starting with 1 link per week, and then increase the number over time.
52% of sites do not use Schema markup, which makes search results more attractive and increases click-through rates.
Recommendations: Implement micro-markup to improve the visual presentation of your site in search results. This will help differentiate your site from your competitors and can have a positive impact on click-through rates.
Most sites have less than 100 reviews in Google and less than 50 in Yandex. For some companies with multiple locations, reputation may be spread across multiple profiles.
Recommendations: If you do not yet have a profile in Yandex.Business, register. It is important to regularly update information, photos and respond to reviews to maintain a good reputation. Google does not currently publish reviews for Belarusian companies, but Yandex continues to actively work with reviews.
Title and Description optimization is present on only 52% and 48% of sites, respectively. The H1 tag is present in 8 out of 10 sites.
Recommendations: It is very important that the tags are unique for each page of the site. They should be informative and contain keywords. Headlines should also be attractive to users to improve click-through rates in search results.
Website performance on desktop versions is generally satisfactory, but on mobile devices, 62% of websites show poor speed results.
Recommendations: Pay attention to the optimization of mobile versions of the site, as search engines are increasingly paying attention to mobile optimization. Make sure that the images on the site are compressed and the code is error-free, and that the hosting provides sufficient performance for your site.
All sites are responsive and contain clickable phone numbers. However, it is also important to make sure that users can quickly find the information they need and take the desired action on the site.
Recommendations: Make sure that all application forms and search functions are working on the site. Having forms for ordering a call and requesting an application on service pages will help increase conversions and improve the effectiveness of online marketing.
All sites in the sample have potential for growth. The leader scored 367 points out of 500, which leaves 133 points that can be improved to increase organic traffic. In our audit, we only covered some of the factors that influence SEO. However, by improving these aspects, you can be significantly ahead of your competitors.
