Can we talk about guarantees in SEO promotion? When choosing a contractor, some companies promise to increase traffic, orders, sales, and if they fail to achieve what they promised, they are ready to return the money or continue working for free until results are obtained. Others do not provide any guarantees at all. Who actually promises what and who can be trusted - let's figure it out.
During SEO consultations, I am often asked questions regarding guarantees in SEO promotion. Sometimes, after my answer that there are no guarantees, the customer is surprised and says that he was promised something completely different.
When you begin to clarify what exactly was promised to him, what conditions were agreed upon and what is stated in the contract, there is often a pause. This is a signal for further analysis.
1. At least four parties are involved in SEO promotion: the customer, the seller, the specialist and the search engine. The final result depends on each participant.
- An SEO specialist is responsible for the specific work that will be performed and for recommendations based on competitor analysis.
- The customer is responsible for the timely implementation of the specialist’s recommendations, correcting errors on the site and following these recommendations in the future.
- The search robot evaluates changes on the site, but this may take time (up to 3-4 months), and sanctions from the search engine are also possible if the rules are violated on the site.
- The salesperson or consultant influences how your team will work with leads, because even with high-quality traffic, losses are possible due to ineffective work with clients.
When it comes to guarantees, it is necessary to understand that each participant is responsible for his or her area of responsibility, and the guarantee can only relate to the completion of work on time and without the use of prohibited methods.
2. Search engine algorithms are constantly changing, and the results in search results have not been stable for a long time. This means that an SEO specialist cannot guarantee long-term positions, as they may change depending on algorithm updates.
3. No specialist can interfere with search engine algorithms. Even an experienced expert is not able to directly influence search results.
4. SEO promotion is a long-term investment. Expecting a sharp increase in positions in 1-2 months is unrealistic. If someone promises such results, most likely they are using gray methods that may bring short-term results, but ultimately violate the rules of search engines.
5. In 2003, Yandex stated that any “guarantees of a site’s position in search results” are a hoax. In fact, guarantees of ranking and traffic growth cannot be given as part of honest SEO practice.
It is important that the customer understands: real results in SEO can only be expected over time. If you are promised a multiple increase in sales in 1-2 months or free work until results are achieved, most likely this is a marketing ploy, and such promises should not be taken seriously.
If you are willing to commit to the long term and understand that SEO takes time to produce results, then this will give you the opportunity to save money in the future on paid advertising, since SEO promotion will work much cheaper in the long run.
Yes, there will be results, and it will be significantly cheaper compared to contextual or targeted advertising.
Based on experience, I can say that in the absence of restrictions from search engines, the first positive changes are visible within 2-4 months. These changes occur as technical bugs are fixed, basic and fine-grained optimizations are performed, and semantic work is done. Expect a significant increase in traffic and orders in 6-12 months.
As for end-to-end analytics, SEO leads convert into sales 30% better than leads from contextual advertising, and 50% better than leads from display advertising.
Honest specialists do not give guarantees on SEO results, nor do they stipulate them in the contract. However, what can be guaranteed is the completion of the scope of work on time and without the use of gray promotion methods (unless otherwise agreed with the client).
If someone promises to bring the site into the TOP 10 keywords within the first month or guarantees a refund, I recommend avoiding such contractors. This means that you are promised unfair work, which will ultimately lead to sanctions from search engines.
During one of my consulting calls I was asked the following question:
The answer was simple: there are no guarantees in SEO, but we do the work efficiently and on time.
This is confirmed by reviews from our clients, which are publicly available.
