SEO checklist: 25 points of effective optimization

A checklist for checking the correctness of SEO optimization at the start of a project. Use it to set up and audit your site.

1. Make sure that there are no copies of it on the site that could be opened for indexing by search engines.

2. Select the main mirror for your site: www.site.ru or just site.ru.

3. Check that the non-main site mirror does not have a permanent 301 redirect to the main one.

4. Go through the robots.txt file and make sure the settings are correct.

5. Check that non-existent pages on the site return a “404” response code.

6. Find and eliminate “broken” links that lead to nowhere.

7. Check the site for errors in markup.

8. Make sure there are no errors in the CSS.

9. Check site loading speed as it affects user experience and SEO.

10. Study how the site is displayed in different browsers.

11. Check the display of the site on different screen resolutions.

12. Make sure the sitemap is present and working correctly.

13. Place a favicon in .ico format on all pages of the site.

14. Check for the presence of the link rel=canonical attribute on duplicate pages of the site.

15. Set up CNC (human-readable URLs) for all pages of the site.

16. Use micro-markup to help search engines better understand the site’s content.

17. Make sure your site has breadcrumbs to improve navigation.

18. Take care of the presence of unique texts on the site, avoid duplicate content.

19. Maintain the correct hierarchy of headings on site pages.

20. Check that each page has a unique Title and Description.

21. Make sure there is a common Title tag for the entire site.

22. Set the site region in the webmaster tool.

23. Register your site in directories and business services to increase visibility.

24. Optimize your site's images to make it load faster.

25. Make sure that the site has statistics counters installed to analyze traffic and user behavior.
