Our client is a small bakery in the center of Moscow, where the aroma of freshly baked products merges with the bustle of city streets. In an effort to stand out from the competition, the bakery team asked for help in promoting their website. This case study shows how well-chosen keywords, content optimization and strategic work with backlinks helped a small business become a leading player in the pie delivery market in Moscow.
At the beginning, I did a thorough analysis of the site and its competitors. The resource was built on the Opencart platform.
After conducting a site audit, I realized that SEO needed to be reworked from scratch. The site design had to be changed, but the logo remained unchanged.
My work began with me focusing on search engine optimization, since the client had previously actively used paid advertising, but the results were unstable. I decided to leave paid advertising and focused all my efforts on working with SEO.
Observations have shown that traffic from advertising in Yandex.Direct has been quite high in recent years. From March to July there was an increase in search traffic, which I attribute to an improvement in rankings after the site was transferred to a new CMS. However, this growth was short-lived, as the subsequent decline in the season led to a decrease in traffic.
Soon, the bakery management decided to disable paid advertising, which resulted in a drop in traffic in organic search results. This process lasted quite a long time, about six months, but since December of this year I have actively taken up SEO work.
My first step was to focus on creating the highest quality content to answer search engine queries.
The issue of bots and their impact on the site is separate. According to statistics, I noticed an increase in bots, but this did not have a negative impact on the operation of the site, rather the opposite. This was a good signal that the efforts began to bear fruit. However, I couldn’t leave everything unchecked, so I started installing protection using CloudFlare, as well as a captcha to prevent bots. But later, after numerous attempts to block, I realized that this protection is not always effective, and decided to leave everything as it is.
In parallel with this, I started working on internal optimization, focusing on improving the user experience, and also worked with external links. I still continue to monitor the improvement of user interaction with the site, correcting errors and introducing small improvements that may affect conversion.
Lifehack 1: It took 6 months before I noticed that the site was gaining popularity, but many query clusters still did not have landing pages. However, the site continued to grow over time, and new landing pages were only added when growth slowed. This is a good example of how to gradually increase your market presence.
Life hack 2: After a year of work, I changed the SEO plugin on the Wordpress platform, which led to changes in the meta descriptions, which gave a significant increase in sales.
Lifehack 3: To get additional traffic, I used competitors’ brand queries by optimizing pages for bakery brands that had similar names. I soon noticed that these queries began to generate clicks and sales, which also had a significant impact on the overall results.
As the site grew, the results became more evident and within the first month we saw an improvement in traffic and sales. Over two years, there has been an increase in traffic by 500-1000%, and in sales by 80-120%. Every month traffic and sales increase by 10-30%.
Good customer communication has played a key role in this success. They provided excellent service and good customer service, which enhanced their reputation and performance. Ratings from customers based on more than 600 reviews were 4.9 points. A loyalty system was also introduced, which made it possible, in combination with SEO and external links, to achieve high results.
