Imagine: you are looking for a service or product in a search engine. You open the first page of search results and see 3 websites of the same business! Incredible?
This is exactly what happened to our client. Three sites with almost identical addresses, differing only by one digit in the case number, occupied 30% of the first page of search engines, leaving competitors far behind.
How did they do it? The secret is in a well-built SEO strategy that takes advantage of all the advantages of the “twins” and avoids pitfalls. Want to know how it was done? Read on!
The story began several years ago, when the client was just starting his business. He had one website developed by a third-party company using a custom CMS. The business was small, and SEO promotion was not part of the plans at that time.
Over time, when the business began to grow, the client asked for help to create another website. The new website was launched and immediately became part of the SEO strategy. Within a few months, the results became noticeable, and the client, inspired by the success, decided to transfer SEO work to his first website.
At this stage, the idea to create a third website appeared. The specifics of the client’s business are such that the location of production plays an important role in attracting clients. Analysis of search results showed that at one address there may be several companies, not always related to the same field. The client had several buildings at one address, and we decided to use them to create three sites. All sites had different phone numbers.
The main problem was avoiding affiliate filters. Search engines strictly ensure that sites belonging to the same owner do not compete with each other. We had to find a balance between the similarity of the sites to maintain a unified brand, and their uniqueness that would allow the sites to be perceived as independent resources.
We had three websites: two new ones, developed on a popular CMS and hosted on the same hosting, and one old website on a self-written platform.
We immediately prepared new sites for SEO promotion: we thought through the structure, selected keywords and filled them with unique content. It was important that the sites, although targeting similar key queries, had differences in structure and content.
The client's old website was not mobile-friendly, and the client was very afraid to make changes to it, since this site brought in the main income. We agreed that we would begin adapting the old site for mobile devices only after two new sites reached a sales level comparable to the first.
Therefore, the main task was SEO promotion of new sites and bringing them to the top of search results.
