Imagine the situation: you are looking for a service or product in a search engine. You open the first page, and suddenly you see three sites at once that belong to the same business. Sounds incredible, doesn't it?
This result was achieved by our client. Three sites with almost identical addresses, differing only in a small detail in the case number, occupied 30% of the first page of search results and significantly outperformed their competitors.
How was this done? The key factor was a competent approach to an SEO strategy that effectively used the advantages of the “twins” and avoided possible problems. Want to know how we did it? Read on!
The story began with the fact that the client had just begun to develop his business and created one website. The development was carried out by another company, and the site itself was built on a self-written platform. The business was small, and the issue of SEO promotion was not even discussed then.
Over time, as the business began to grow, the client asked for help to create a second website. The new resource was quickly launched and immediately began to advance in search engines. After a few months, the results became obvious, and the client, inspired by the success, decided to do SEO for his first website.
At some point, the idea came up to create a third website. The peculiarity of the client's business was that the location of production played a key role in attracting customers. After analyzing the search results, we noticed that different companies, sometimes not related to the same field, can be registered at the same address. Fortunately, the client had several buildings at the same address, and we decided to create a separate website for each of them. Various contact details were used for these sites, including phone numbers.
However, one of the main problems was to avoid sanctions from search engines. They strictly ensure that sites belonging to the same owner do not compete with each other in search results. The challenge was to find a balance between the need to maintain a consistent brand structure and ensure that each site was unique to search engines.
So we had three sites. Two new resources were created on the WordPress platform and hosted on the same hosting, and the third, old site, continued to function on a self-written CMS.
We immediately set up new sites for SEO: we thought through the structure, selected keywords and created unique content. It was very important that these sites, despite having common goals, had different structures and content.
As for the old site, it was not responsive, and the client was very worried about making changes, since this site brought the main profit. We agreed that we will adapt it for mobile devices only after two new sites reach a similar sales level.
Thus, the first step was SEO promotion of new sites and bringing them to the top positions for key queries.
