If you are a business owner or a beginner SEO specialist, it may be difficult for you to figure out what work needs to be done on the site, where to start and what tasks to solve.
Briefly, we start with optimizing the most significant categories of the site.
1. We select the most popular, high-frequency and traffic-bearing categories that generate leads and are of interest to the site owner.
2. For these categories, we collect search queries and optimize them (I will share how to do this on my channel).
3. We move on to analyzing the general condition of the site, paying attention to less important pages.
I prefer to start by answering the question: what goal do I want to achieve?
It is important to ask the site owner what he expects from the work: for example, “increase category traffic by 30%” or “bring the site to the TOP in the list of requests.”
The goal must be clearly formulated: if there is an increase in traffic, then by how much and for which pages; if there is an increase in positions, then for what queries and on which pages.
Next, we analyze the current state of the site.
Current state is information about the current traffic and visibility of the site, as well as the number of queries for which the site is already displayed in search.
To analyze visibility, you can use traffic inspection services.
Positions for specific requests can be tracked in specialized services.
After analysis, we understand which categories should be promoted and how much traffic needs to be increased.
Then we collect requests for the selected categories.
The site may already have visibility for some queries, but our task is to collect all possible queries that may be suitable for each category.
You can collect requests using various services. One of the popular methods is using Yandex Wordstat.
Let's take the "Mountain Bikes" category as an example.
We enter the category name into Wordstat, analyze the queries and check whether they correspond to the site. We collect suitable requests for this category.
After this, we upload the list of queries into Excel.
Next, we check the site’s position for these queries.
If the site does not occupy a position in the TOP 10, then these requests become priorities for promotion. To do this, you will need to distribute them across the appropriate pages, which requires query clustering.
Clustering is a grouping of queries into the TOP 10, which takes into account which pages are shown for several queries simultaneously.
The principle of clustering is that requests for which identical pages are shown in the TOP 10 can be grouped and promoted to one landing page.
The clustering threshold determines how many identical pages must be in the TOP 10 for queries in order for them to be classified into one group.
After clustering the requests, we distribute them across pages.
If your site doesn't have a page that matches a specific cluster, for example for queries related to "29" mountain bikes," you'll need to create one.
When queries are distributed across landing pages, it is necessary to work out meta tags and text content for each page.
If there are texts on competitors’ pages, then we create tasks for writing similar texts for our pages.
After this, we check technical optimization, especially for promoted categories.
Please note that all pages that we promote must be indexed by search engines. Indexing is the process of adding website pages to a search engine database so that those pages can be found in search results.
In order to index pages, you need:
Next, when all the important pages have been worked out, you can turn your attention to the overall optimization of the site.
We check the general indexing of the site, look for duplicates and other problems that may affect the site’s visibility in the search engine.
