Recently, a comprehensive SEO audit was carried out on 30 websites representing online stores of fishing products. The sites were selected from the first pages of search results of major search engines. As a result of a detailed analysis, a ranking of SEO optimization of these Internet resources was compiled. It is important to note that the rating reflects solely the SEO indicators of sites and is not related to the activities of companies as a whole. This is just a description of their online presence.
To compile the rating, the following criteria were used: domain age, indexing, link mass, meta tag optimization, micro markup, reputation in search engines, unique content, site performance, usability and the presence of e-commerce functions.
The assessment was carried out for each criterion, and the total score for each site was calculated taking into account the importance of each of the parameters. The maximum possible score is 500.
The largest number of sites in the analyzed sample are “age” resources that are more than 5-10 years old. The average age of sites is 7.75 years, and the oldest site has been running for 17 years.
What to do: If your site was registered not long ago, do not worry about its age. This is an excellent motivation for active work on SEO promotion. The younger the site, the less trust search engines have in it.
All sites have a Robots.txt file, but only 87% of them are provided with a Sitemap.xml sitemap. Duplicate pages were found on 23% of sites.
What to do: Make sure your sitemap is properly configured and included in Robots.txt. This will help search engines index your site correctly. If there are duplicates on the site, they should either be deleted or hidden from indexing.
About 66% of websites have up to 25 domains linking to them. On average, 29 domains link to a site in the sample.
What to do: Gradually increase the number of external links. Start with one link per week, gradually increasing this number as possible.
Micro markup plays a key role for online stores. It helps search engines display more informative ads in search results, which sets your site apart from competitors.
What to do: Implement micro markup, preferably with the assistance of an SEO specialist or programmer. Make sure your markup covers elements like address, images, prices, and reviews.
63% of companies do not have reviews on Google, or their number does not exceed 50. In Yandex, the reputation also leaves much to be desired - 76% of sites have less than 20 reviews.
What to do: Create a profile for your company in Yandex.Business, if you don’t have one. If your profile already exists, update it regularly, add photos, product information, and ask customers to leave reviews.
As for Google, the situation is a little more complicated. Since February of this year, Google has stopped publishing reviews about Belarusian companies. However, do not forget that maintaining and updating your profile is still of great importance.
Title and Description tags are the most important elements of SEO optimization. It is by these tags that search engines decide how relevant the site is to the user’s request.
What to do: Write unique Title and Description tags for all pages of your site. Make sure they contain the keywords you want to be found for.
Website loading speed is an important aspect that affects its position in search results. About 57% of sites have good performance on desktops, but the situation is much worse on mobile devices: 63% of sites have poor performance.
What to do: Test your site using PageSpeed Insights and follow the recommendations to improve performance. The main problems are often related to large images, errors in the code or insufficient quality of hosting.
All sites are adapted for mobile devices and have SSL certificates. However, only 60% of sites have clickable phone numbers, which creates inconvenience for users who want to contact the store.
What to do: Pay attention to the clickability of phone numbers. Add special links with the format "tel:+375" for easy dialing from mobile devices.
An important component of online stores is the possibility of online payment. However, only 23% of sites provide this opportunity. Some sites claim this, but in fact do not have a full payment system.
