We decided to organize something unusual and create our own radio show on the waves of a local radio station. The target audience of this radio station is small and medium-sized businesses, which was ideal for our task. We called the program "WEB Wednesday" because it was released on Wednesdays, and the main focus was web marketing and Internet promotion.
Initially, we talked only about current channels for attracting customers and did reviews of various services. However, listeners began asking for more practical examples. After all, in the format of a short audio program it is difficult to delve into the details of real cases, but we wanted the information to be useful and deep.
Then the idea came - to organize something like a reality show, where we would promote the website of a contest participant live. We announced a casting call, offering people a chance for free SEO promotion. All you had to do was send an application through a special number, after which our manager contacted the participants for an initial consultation.
At first, we planned to conduct a random selection and take one site for three months of promotion, but we soon realized that we needed to choose more consciously. On some sites, the problems were so serious that standard promotion methods would hardly have yielded results without drastic changes.
We came across a site that was built using a long-outdated builder, visually looked sloppy and was a real “anti-welcome” for users. In addition, this site was in an extremely competitive niche - the field of selling doors and windows. We understood that for some sites the solution to the problem is a complete redesign of the resource, and not just SEO optimization.
Although many people think that this is an expensive endeavor, there are actually more budget-friendly options, such as using builders or templates. Since the site was built using an old builder, the solution was obvious - we needed to remake the site, but do it at minimal cost.
In the end, we received 21 applications, and the winner was a site that made keys. All participants received a free basic audit of their websites with recommendations. We explained in detail why we selected a particular candidate, and those who were not selected also received useful recommendations on how to improve their sites.
When we contacted the winner, Gennady, the site owner, did not believe that his site would become a participant in the project. He thought that we would simply conduct an analysis on the air of the program and offer some recommendations. However, everything turned out to be much more serious.
We started work immediately after the winner was announced, since each week was supposed to be filled with useful information for our listeners. On air we talked about what work was done, how it affected the position of the site and what are our plans for the future.
In order for the audience to receive even more benefits, we began to share with them not only the results, but also real tools: promotion strategy, meta tags, competitor analysis and other important documents. This is how we made the SEO promotion process transparent and useful for all listeners.
Initial data:
The winner's website was in pretty bad shape. It was created many years ago, and Gennady, its owner, has not updated it for a long time. Because of this, the site significantly lost in positions and ended up on page 3-4 of search results.
In the following materials we will tell you in detail how exactly we started working with this site, and will reveal each stage of our promotion!
