Organic SEO vs Professional SEO

In recent years, there has been an increasing focus on organic SEO. Today, I realize that what I consider organic SEO is different from what was called professional “SEO” in the past.

Organic SEO

Organic SEO is a search engine optimization practice that focuses on increasing user satisfaction, which in turn affects a website's ranking in search engines.

Some argue that "it's not SEO because you're not optimizing the site specifically for search engines." I prefer to be gentle in such cases, although this statement can hardly be called true (and I prefer not to be rude in my articles).

I optimize content to be effective in search engine marketing, which is typically measured as traffic, the quality of that traffic, and page rank.

Traffic is often the main indicator of marketing success. The quality of traffic is determined in the context of the marketing goals and results to be achieved.

The rating, in turn, can influence not only traffic, but also the quality of this traffic. Rank metric is difficult to measure accurately, but we can measure it and optimize content for higher rankings in search results.

Search engine optimization involves manipulating search engine algorithms to produce desired results... which is why the term SEO exists. If you are unable to achieve the desired positions and the site is not gaining popularity, this means that there are problems. You will compare yourself with competitors, look for mistakes, but this will not always lead to the desired result. Sometimes sites make it to the TOP that, in your opinion, should not have gotten there. And you may mistakenly take them as a model. This can be confusing and affect your understanding of what works and what doesn't.

Organic SEO is an optimization technique that aims to achieve marketing goals using natural methods, as opposed to traditional SEO practices that rely on industry "best" advice.

I'll talk about this in more detail below, but first let's understand what is now commonly called "professional SEO."

Professional SEO and Best Practices

Professional SEO is defined by renowned experts who actively claim what SEO is by offering products and services in the field.

If someone offers “SEO services,” they usually consider themselves a search engine optimization professional.

In a fairly open market, if the methods of these specialists diverge from what others offer, over time there will be a kind of “testing” and consolidation of what works better to achieve the desired results.

At the end of the day, successful SEOs will remain relevant in the marketplace and will be able to compete for attention. Their activities will be focused on increasing traffic, improving the quality of that traffic or improving search engine rankings, and achieving excellence in these aspects.

Today, the profession of an SEO specialist is transforming into something new.

The Corruption of Free Markets: Google

Hint: The SEO market is far from a free market. Google has been actively intervening and campaigning against SEO for many years now.

SEO corruption has become a part of the search engine industry and has been greatly accelerated by the rise of search marketing.

Google tends to intervene and control SEO to manage competitors and direct their efforts. And, I must admit, they succeeded to a large extent. There are now a huge number of SEO “best practices” and “guidelines” that are not field-tested and cannot guarantee improved traffic, traffic quality, or higher search engine rankings.

Are you an SEO specialist?

If you believe in SEO "best practices" provided by experts or even verified by search engine employees, then you may be a professional SEO specialist.

But I'm willing to bet that many of these recommendations you follow don't result in improved traffic or traffic quality, or help you achieve other marketing goals you have for your site.

Additionally, many of these steps cannot be objectively assessed, and the evidence is typically presented in the “opinion” of experts whose job it is to manipulate the SEO market to benefit their companies.

Unfortunately, in most cases it looks like just a marketing ploy, and not a real working system for achieving goals.

Organic SEO

If instead of following suggested SEO techniques, you optimize your content based on actual marketing goals, then you are doing organic SEO. This includes:

  • Increased traffic from search engines;
  • Improving traffic quality;
  • Optimization to improve search rankings that align with your marketing goals;
  • Obtaining other relevant results that search engines may provide to achieve these goals.

If you are doing all of this, then you are an organic SEO specialist.

Is there a market for professional SEO?

Of course there is. Many companies want to hire professionals who follow pre-established SEO practices and believe that this leads to results.

But the problem is that these methods do not always work in modern search engine dynamics, where the search platforms themselves actively intervene to hide information and limit access to it.

The aggressive policies of companies such as Google, aimed at limiting the possibilities of “independent” SEO, leads to the fact that in case of violations of their rules, sites are subject to fines and sanctions.

Who are you?

This is a question without a clear answer. SEO influence and awareness change like waves in the ocean: search engine manipulation, competition, market conditions, and even user behavior are constantly changing.

However, you are in control of your activities and can choose a path that leads to real results, or follow “rules” that do not always benefit your business.

If you're wasting time on methods that you know don't produce meaningful results or that you can't measure, you may not be on the right track. My takeaway: If your goal is real marketing results, you should ignore anecdotal evidence and focus on what actually works.
