I recently wrote that in today's environment, SEO is one of the few traffic acquisition channels that has remained stable. Unlike contextual advertising, SMM and video platforms, which have lost their effectiveness, SEO continues to work.
Today I want to demonstrate with a real example how SEO has not only stood the test, but also gained additional benefits in the current situation.
I recently got a new client - a website for a hotel chain in a large Russian city. SEO promotion began in the middle of the month, and soon an initial technical check of the site was carried out. However, the client soon reported that traffic to the site had dropped sharply after one of the major international booking platforms stopped working in the country.
We discussed the current situation and decided to compensate for the loss of traffic by launching contextual advertising and intensifying work on SEO promotion. However, the further development of events was a real surprise.
After the international booking service stopped operating in the country, SEO traffic went up sharply. Within a few days, we noticed a twofold increase in site visitors. After some time, there was a new jump, and attendance doubled. If before the service was turned off, the site attracted about 100 visitors daily, then after 10 days their number increased to 250-350 people per day.
What led to such a sharp increase in traffic?
Before starting to work with the site, there were already good positions for some key queries. But most clients preferred to search for hotels through paid platforms. However, after the shutdown of this platform, user behavior changed. Now people began to search for hotels directly through search engines, and those sites that ranked well began to receive significantly more traffic. In this situation, those who already had strong positions in organic search began to skim off the cream.
As a result, we were able to first compensate for lost traffic using contextual advertising. But after 10 days there was no longer a need for it, since users began to come from organic search engine results. Further work on SEO only strengthened the site’s position, and by the beginning of the season the site was already receiving much more traffic than before the crisis.
How do you like this example? What do you think about the situation where SEO not only helps maintain stability, but also provides additional benefits in changing conditions?
