For about six months now I have been working as an SEO specialist in a company with a salary of 80 thousand rubles per month in St. Petersburg. I can’t say that this is a high salary (and I already wrote about this in a previous article), but given the economic situation and the proximity of the office to home, it’s quite normal. But here's what's interesting!
The main problem is not the work itself, but the attitude towards SEO on the part of management. The business owner has long developed a negative attitude towards SEO, apparently due to experience working with not very qualified specialists. He doesn't see any promise in SEO, and for him it seems to be an unstable and unreliable thing. That being said, if it weren’t for SEO, many companies simply wouldn’t be able to survive, let alone compete. Without SEO, all traffic and sales would depend only on contextual advertising, which, as a rule, is a waste of the budget.
But all this is okay, because the situation at work looks a little comical. As an SEO specialist, I sit and do things like clean the room. Either take out the trash, or remove boxes from computers, or even requests to create a visual for the site. In general, anything but SEO.
No, that doesn't mean it's hard for me, in fact I don't mind helping. But to be honest, I would happily become a cleaner for such a salary, because working in the evening on my clients (and this is only 2-3 hours a week), I earn more than in the office.
As a result, it turns out that sitting 8 hours a day in the office, doing something other than what is really needed for SEO, I get 80 thousand rubles a month. But doing SEO on the side for several clients, I earn 90-100 thousand rubles a month, and spending only a few hours a week on it. Funny situation, isn't it?
Ps. If we go back to my experience, I always earned more when working remotely than in the office. But at the same time, for some reason I continue to go to the office and work for “uncle”. Apparently, there is some kind of confidence in stability, even if it is just a mirage.
