This is a short story full of lessons and losses that I had to endure before I understood what SEO is and how it works!
From 20 to 28 years old (from 2012 to the year) I lived quietly, enjoying life. I often relaxed with friends, played sports and enjoyed my free time. At that time, I was not worried about financial issues or ambitions to work for myself. I thought my life was good enough and I shouldn't look for anything more.
But at the age of 28, something important happened - I realized that I wanted more. There was a desire to change my life, achieve significant goals and become independent. I began to dream about my own business, about how I would earn good money, help my family, travel and live in abundance. I decided it was time to act!
But life quickly showed that everything is not so simple...
I began actively looking for business ideas, asking myself, “What kind of business can I start?” What can I do? I explored many options, from government procurement to trading, but eventually came across courses on creating online stores.
I was interested in one coach who taught how to create a successful online store from scratch on a popular platform. I was sure that this was exactly what I needed - because in this way I could earn money and become independent!
My naivety knew no bounds.
I chose a topic that seemed relevant and interesting to me. I decided to delve into creating online stores and soon bought a course for a large sum that promised personal mentorship and a full package of benefits. For five months, I persistently followed all the trainer’s recommendations and built a website. My mentor regularly praised my progress.
When the site was ready, I began to expect clients, but, unfortunately, there were practically no orders. Back then, I didn’t yet know what SEO was and how it affects the visibility of a website in search engines.
Although the course itself was quite detailed, the results were extremely disappointing. The reason was that the site was not SEO optimized and key SEO techniques were not taken into account. This meant that my site was poorly prepared for the Internet.
A lot of what I studied was about analytics and marketing, but SEO was not given enough attention. This turned out to be a key factor. Of course, I understand that even with good SEO optimization there is a chance that the site will not get into the TOP of search engines, but at that time I was far from success.
Having invested a huge amount of effort and money into the project, I gave up. The site was abandoned, and all my efforts were in vain. I realized that this is not as simple as it seemed at first glance.
After my first failure, I spent a lot of time thinking and was hesitant to get into business again. But I'm not one to give up. I told myself: “It’s time to start again, I can do this!” I understood that successful people do not become so without difficulty. They fail and learn from their mistakes.
I found a new mentor who taught how to create online stores on a different platform, and I entered the new project with optimism. Taking into account the old experience and improved SEO optimization, I was confident that the result would be much better. This time the training cost me much less than the first time.
We created a good website that to this day receives about 500 organic clicks per month, but there was one important point that I did not take into account.
Changes have come from search engines: a new algorithm has appeared, which has become much more strict. To get to the TOP, the site had to be not just good, but excellent, both in terms of the depth of content and technical characteristics. This put the project in difficult conditions that were difficult for me to overcome without large investments.
After realizing that my website couldn't compete with new algorithms, I decided to go back to the basics of SEO to gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to be successful online.
As I said, everything turned out to be much more complicated than I thought. The SEO learning process has become a real long-term project for me.
I started studying SEO seriously by observing thought leaders in the field. I read many articles and watched training videos, which gave me a general understanding of SEO and its role in website promotion. After two unsuccessful attempts to create successful online stores, I decided to take courses and become a real SEO expert.
I passed the course and my SEO knowledge deepened significantly. I realized that SEO is not just a set of techniques, but a whole system that requires deep knowledge and experience.
This step was an important milestone for me. I realized that to succeed, you need to constantly develop and learn. And although it may seem like a scary and uncertain step, I have realized that these decisions are the best thing I can do for myself.
Moral of the story: If you take risks, you can lose, but if you don't take risks, you can't win. The path to success requires patience and determination.
