How did I get into SEO?

Before I came to SEO, I worked for 3.5 years in a logistics company involved in container shipping. In the first two years everything went well, but then problems began - with the political situation in the country and the rise in exchange rates. There was significantly less work, and problems with paying wages were not long in coming.

And at that moment I heard about SEO. I started studying the information and realized that this was a popular and promising area. To get a job as an SEO assistant, I needed some basic knowledge, so I decided to start with Ingate's SEMBOOK. I read it, everything seems clear. I closed the book, but could no longer retell what I had read. At the age of 29, it turned out to be quite difficult to absorb new information, so I started a thick notebook and wrote notes for months, filling the pages without stopping. The end result was 48 pages! But, oddly enough, I never needed this summary - everything ended up stuck in my head.

Next, I started researching job openings and went through various articles to understand what else I needed to know for SEO. I started to understand things like Yandex.Webmaster, Metrica and the semantic core, and realized that I needed to look for a place where I could get a job.

I was probably the first person to look for an SEO job during working hours! Work was scarce, so I spent my lunch breaks calling an SEO company. I wrote out contacts of companies and started my calls with the phrase: “Hello, my name is Dmitry, I’m looking for a job as an SEO optimizer assistant...”. And all this happened on the street, when it was still warm autumn - so there was no risk of being overheard by the authorities.

I called the cold line because there were very few vacancies. But, surprisingly, this non-standard approach turned out to be successful - someone will definitely appreciate my initiative. In the end, I called 100 companies and received several invitations for interviews. This gave me a chance to get into an online agency. I was ready to start from scratch and just get hooked on the industry to gain at least six months of experience, because, as it turned out, this is exactly what you need to start. As a result, I ended up in an agency where the head of the department was 5 years younger than me, and that’s how my career in SEO began.
