Case study on SEO promotion: office relocations

I have been promoting websites for almost 20 years. During this time, I worked on many different projects, and I want to talk about some of them here.

Office relocation is a competitive niche, especially in large cities. One of the companies providing office moving services turned to me for help. My task was to improve site traffic and bring it to high positions for key queries in search engines.

What happened at the start of work

At the time of the start of work, the company’s website had low traffic and did not bring a significant number of applications. The main goal was to bring the site to the TOP of Yandex for key queries related to office relocations, as well as to significantly increase the number of applications.

Work with the site continued for 5 years, and eventually a modernization was carried out, which bore fruit.

When I started working on the project, the site was in poor condition. According to information received from previous contractors, the company has already changed contractors several times, and none of them has been able to achieve a significant improvement in position. The current SEO budget was ineffectively spent, and the site was outside the TOP 50 of Yandex and Google.

After the first inspection of the site, it became obvious that the previous specialists did not work well. Errors in the site structure, spelling errors and errors in the technical part jeopardized successful promotion. The company also changed contractors several times, which affected the results. In response, I offered a discount for the first few months of work to compensate for the mistakes made by other performers.

Work on the project

Stage 1. Website modernization

When analyzing the site, it turned out that its structure was ineffective for SEO promotion. As a result, it was decided to carry out a complete modernization, which significantly improved technical parameters and internal optimization. After reworking the site structure, many keywords immediately began to appear in the TOP 50 of Yandex.

Stage 2. Working with semantics

The project had a narrow topic - office relocations, so it was necessary to work out the semantic core very carefully. An important step was the exclusion of non-targeted or “junk” requests.

For this purpose, various tools were used, such as Wordstat, Yandex.Metrica, search suggestions, as well as analysis of the semantics of competitors. As a result of the analysis, about 300 relevant key queries were collected from several thousand proposed phrases.

Stage 3. Development of the site structure

Based on competitive analysis, a new website structure was proposed. One of the most important changes was the creation of new pages for narrower categories of services, such as overnight moving, which allowed us to attract additional traffic and increase conversions.

Stage 4. Technical and commercial audit

During the technical audit, all key errors were corrected: the robots.txt file was updated, a site map was added, the main mirror and canonical URLs were configured, duplicate pages were eliminated, and breadcrumbs were added to improve navigation.

A commercial audit showed that the site almost fully complies with modern standards. Several recommendations were made to increase conversion, but in general, the commercial component was at a high level.

Results and KPIs

Dynamics of search traffic

After all the work carried out, site traffic increased 10 times, which led to a significant increase in the number of applications.

Increasing income from the site

Income goals were successfully achieved. During the economic downturn and general isolation, we were able to significantly increase the number of applications and calls. If previously there were only a few calls a month, then after some time they began to receive from 9 to 11 per day.

Growth of site positions

During our work, we were able to bring all the most important key queries into the TOP 10 of Yandex, which at the time of the start of the project were not even in the first hundred. We were also able to display the site based on the most competitive and priority phrases.

During the pandemic, a new series of relevant queries were added, for which the site was also successfully brought to the TOP of Yandex.
