All methods of website promotion | Search engine promotion

Creating a website is just the first step. For it to become successful, it is necessary to attract visitors to it.

There are many methods of attracting traffic to a website, and in this material we will discuss the main ones.

It is best to use a combined approach, combining several promotion methods to achieve maximum results.

One of the most effective ways is search engine promotion of a website, or SEO (search engine optimization).

I will try to explain everything as simply and clearly as possible, so that even beginners can understand the key principles.

In Russia, the most popular search engines are Yandex and Google, which are used by millions of users every day to find the necessary information.

For example, let's try to find one of my recent videos "Installing WordPress 5.8 on a Local Web Server".

What do we see in search results? A title, a link to a resource, and a piece of text called a snippet.

In this case, since we used a low-frequency query, our site appeared on the first page of search results.

Search queries can be high-frequency, mid-frequency and low-frequency. The frequency depends on how many times users enter a certain query in a search engine per month.

As you understand, it is much easier to get into search results for a low-frequency query than for a medium or high-frequency one.

The search results themselves give us clues about what to look for when creating content for your site.

In order for your material to appear in search results for a specific request, the key phrase must appear in the following places:

  • in the page title (h1 tag),
  • at the beginning of the text,
  • in the Title tag,
  • in the text itself,
  • in the page URL.

Search engines can also index images and videos.

In order for your image to appear in search results, you need to specify the keyword for the image in the alt attribute.

In addition, when creating materials, you need to take LSI queries into account.

LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) is semantically related words and phrases, including synonyms. They help the search engine understand the context of the text, which in turn leads to attracting targeted traffic.

Where can I find LSI queries? On the search results pages of Yandex and Google you can see the sections “People are searching” (Yandex) and “Related queries” (Google).

Here's what you should also pay attention to:

  • Setting up the sitemap.xml file (site map),
  • Correctly setting up the robots.txt file (a text file that contains indexing parameters for search engines),
  • The URL must not exceed 60 characters,
  • Optimizing page loading speed through caching,
  • Switch to HTTPS,
  • A simple site structure, where the number of clicks from the main page to the desired page is minimal - 1-3 clicks,
  • Taking into account behavioral factors: text formatting, use of multimedia elements (video, animation, images), correct linking.

These factors will help your site appear in search results, but they do not guarantee that your site will appear on the first page.

Search engine algorithms are constantly changing, new technologies are being introduced, such as artificial intelligence, which also affects the site’s position in search results.

Now I want to talk about services that can help you select keywords and topics for new materials.

The first way is the search engines themselves. At the bottom of the Yandex and Google search results pages there are sections with similar queries that can be useful for selecting new key phrases.

When you enter a keyword and press Spacebar, the search engine will show you more search options.

The next service is a word selection tool from Yandex. To use it, you need to log in to your Yandex account. Enter a query, such as “website promotion,” and you will receive statistics on the number of queries per month, as well as additional phrases related to your query.

You can also use Google's Keyword Planner. To do this you need to register with Google. Enter a keyword and click "Show Results". In this tool, you will see a table with keywords, number of searches per month, level of competition and cost per click for advertisements.

The fourth service is the Keyword Tool, which helps you search for key queries not only for Google, but also for other services such as YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and others. Here you get a list of queries, but to view statistics you need a paid subscription.

The last service is Mutagen. To use it you need to register. Enter your query, for example “website promotion”, and get statistics on competition and views. This service also helps to collect so-called “tails” - additional phrases related to your request.

You can use other services to analyze keywords. If you know any good tools, please share them in the comments.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact. We are always ready to help.
