What is SEO promotion in search engines?

SEO promotion is one of the most discussed topics among website owners and web administrators. In this article we will look at what SEO is, why it is needed and what optimization methods exist for websites.

Let's start with terminology

SEO (from English Search Engine Optimization) translates as “search engine optimization.” This is a process that includes a set of techniques aimed at improving the site's position in search engines, which, in turn, helps increase traffic.

To put it simply, SEO optimization is a set of steps that make a website more attractive to search engines. When these steps are completed correctly, the site is more likely to rank at the top of search results, which will lead to more visitors.

The question arises: why do you need SEO at all? Why is it so important to get to the top of search results? The answer lies in the statistics: about 95% of traffic comes from the first page of search engines, and almost 70% of this traffic comes from the first three positions. This is why SEO is necessary for search engines to find your website useful and rank it in the top positions.

Optimization methods

1. White methods

These are methods that fully comply with the rules of search engines and are aimed at qualitatively improving the site. This includes the following steps:

  • collection of the semantic core (selection of keywords);
  • analysis and elimination of technical errors;
  • creating robots.txt and sitemap.xml files;
  • work on the site structure;
  • optimization of media files (photos, videos);
  • creation of high-quality text content.

2. Gray methods

These methods are not officially prohibited, but they are considered controversial and may lead to sanctions from search engines. In some cases, the line between gray and black methods is blurred, which can lead to site blocking.

3. Black methods (BlackHatSEO)

Black hat SEO techniques involve drastic methods of manipulating search results. Search engines view these actions as spam and will typically penalize a site for using them. Black methods include:

  • link bombing (link spam);
  • use of doorways;
  • cloaking;
  • swap (complete replacement of content after indexing);
  • single pixel links.

We will consider each optimization method in more detail in the following articles.
