TOP 10 common mistakes on the site from an SEO point of view

Over the years of working in SEO, I have promoted many websites and conducted audits for various resources. In the process of this work, I compiled a list of the most common errors that can be found on many sites. I recommend that business owners pay attention to these points to improve the effectiveness of their websites.

1. Blank or not updated pages for a long time

A website with empty pages or pages that have not been updated for a long time looks irrelevant and discourages users. For example, if the last news was published several years ago, or the main page contains information about a New Year’s promotion, and it’s summer, this creates the impression that the site is abandoned. In such cases, users will not trust such a site and are unlikely to make a purchase.

2. Tangled structure

The 3-click rule states that any page should be accessible to the user within three clicks from the home page. If the site structure is too complex or the navigation is inconvenient, users will leave. This is especially true for sections such as “Contacts”, if it cannot be found at first glance.

3. Lack of analytics

Selling goods and services without knowing website indicators is like doing business blindly. If you don't have information about traffic, page view depth, bounce rates, and traffic sources, you can't accurately evaluate the effectiveness of your site and promotion strategy. This means you are wasting money.

4. Lack of optimization for mobile devices

According to recent studies, the share of mobile traffic continues to grow and currently accounts for the majority of Internet users. If your site is not optimized for mobile devices, you are missing out on a significant portion of potential customers and profits.

5. Low site loading speed

Research shows that the average time a user is willing to wait for a website to load is 3 seconds. If a site takes longer to load, most users will simply leave it.

6. Intrusive advertising

Pop-up windows with advertisements or promotions that appear a few seconds after entering the site annoy users. Such methods only scare away visitors, reducing trust in the site.

7. Texts consisting of keywords

Texts that are created exclusively for search engines and consist of keywords without taking into account their logic and structure are not only unreadable by users, but can also lead to sanctions from search engines. This is an outdated practice that is no longer useful.

8. Duplicate pages

Duplicate pages create confusion for both users and search engines. When the same information is available through multiple links, it makes indexing difficult and can affect a site's ranking.

9. Empty, identical or not optimized Title and Description

Undeveloped Title and Description meta tags reduce the attractiveness of your site on search engine pages. If these elements are not unique or do not reflect the essence of the page, this can lead to lower rankings and fewer clicks.

10. Broken links

404 errors caused by broken or deleted pages are frustrating for users and can negatively impact search engine rankings. The more such links on a site, the worse it is for its SEO optimization.
