Greetings, friends! As many of you already know, I have dedicated most of my life to professional sports. Until I was 24, my goal was exclusively to win the World Championship. Although I did not become a champion, I managed to get closer to this achievement. I won the Russian championship and became a bronze medalist at world and European championships.
However, at the age of 24, I had to change my mind and switch my attention from sports to other areas. In my search for a job that I liked, I encountered difficulties and could not find a suitable place. It seemed to me that my life was losing meaning. But everything changed when I was introduced to SEO. At the beginning it was very difficult, and I hardly found time for training, but my interest in the new business did not fade away. I realized that I had found my real profession and I am confident that I will develop in this direction. In this article, I would like to share my thoughts on why I am so fascinated by SEO and draw analogies between SEO and sports.
1️⃣ The first thing worth noting is the similarity of promotion in search engines with participation in sports competitions. Just like in sports, there is a constant battle between sites for a place in the search rankings. To get into the TOP 3, you need to make every effort and show skill, since the site must beat thousands of competitors in terms of convenience and quality. To take first place, a site must be the best of the best.
2️⃣ In SEO, as in sports, you cannot relax. To become a world champion, you cannot skip training. For 20 years, I never missed training for more than a week, and then only in case of severe illness. In SEO, the situation is similar: if you leave work on a project for a couple of weeks, competitors can bypass you and break away.
3️⃣ Achieving high positions in search engines requires discipline similar to that of a professional athlete. One job done will not lead to the desired results. To be successful, you need to work daily on the site, improve its technical characteristics and make it more convenient for users. This is the only way to achieve real success.
4️⃣ One of the most pleasant discoveries for me was the environment. Surprisingly, most people in the SEO industry are as open and friendly as athletes. Previously, when I communicated with programmers, I felt extremely uncomfortable, since many of them were closed and did not tolerate people outside their circle. In contrast, marketers and SEOs treat each other with respect and are willing to help newbies. I remember how in the gym every beginner could count on advice and help from more experienced people. I was afraid that in the SEO environment it would be the same as among programmers, but, fortunately, I was wrong.
5️⃣ In my sports career, I was able to meet real legends. For example, in arm wrestling I met one of the most famous athletes in this field. Likewise, at an SEO conference I met a recognized expert in the Russian-language SEO environment. And the most amazing thing is that these people were so similar to each other that they could be mistaken for twin brothers. Even the photographs turned out similar.
