SEO or SEO: speaking correctly

Hello! While everyone is discussing the latest updates in Yandex Metrica, I want to share with you another story that happened to me a few years ago.

Like many, I did not notice the difference between the abbreviations “CEO” and “SEO”, and always wrote as it was more convenient - “SEO”. But one time, after the publication of another post, my friend Alexey wrote to me. Alexey is a very respected person, a professional in his field and the founder of a successful IT company. He wrote to me the following: “Gleb, you are an SEO specialist, so respect your profession and write correctly.”

At first I didn't quite understand what he was talking about, but then he explained that:

  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a set of measures for internal and external optimization of a website in order to improve its position in search results.
  • But “CEO” in Russian is an abbreviation for “CEO,” which means “executive director” or “general director.”

These words stuck with me, and now I always use the correct "SEO", even if it's a conversation among friends. I became uncomfortable when I began to notice that even experienced specialists used “CEO” instead of “SEO”.

However, in the context of promotion sites and SEO services, this abbreviation has its place, since this is what users often search for in search engines. Here it is important to adapt to people’s needs and habits.

How do you write? Did you know about this difference? Write in the comments, I will be glad to know your opinion!
