In the process of conducting a comprehensive SEO audit of the websites of private schools in Minsk, the resources of 20 educational institutions were analyzed. We took sites presented in search engines, as well as those that were listed in articles and directories. The sample included both specialized schools and institutions with additional educational programs.
After a thorough analysis, a ranking of the SEO optimization of these sites was compiled. You can view the results below.
It is important to note that the ranking reflects only the SEO performance of sites in the context of the educational niche and is not related to the activities of schools as a whole. It focuses solely on how these sites are presented in search engines.
The following criteria were used for evaluation: indexing, quality of link mass, tag optimization, use of micro-markup, reputation in online maps, uniqueness of content, performance and usability of sites.
Each site was assigned a score for each of the criteria, and as a result an overall score was calculated taking into account the importance coefficients. The maximum possible score is 500 points.
Based on data on the dynamics of queries on the topic “Private school” in the Yandex search engine, one can observe a peak in activity in the search for private school services, which occurs in mid-summer and early autumn. This is quite natural, since at this time parents are actively choosing educational institutions for their children.
The analysis showed that 20% of sites do not have a Robots.txt file, 40% do not use Sitemap.xml, and 60% of sites have duplicate pages. This may mean that other pages on the site may also have duplicates.
What to do: Check for duplicate pages on your site. Duplicates may be due to differences in URLs (for example, the presence of "www", or the use of http and https). To search for duplicates, you can use specialized services.
If your site falls into the 20% that doesn't have a Robots.txt file, it's important to add it as soon as possible.
Most of the sites in the sample have up to 50 referring domains, which is quite modest compared to the leader, whose figure is 209 referring resources.
What to do: Regularly increase the number of links, even if their number is already quite large. But be careful: you should not buy many links at once, so as not to arouse suspicion among search engines. Start with one link per week and gradually increase their number.
Schema markup is present in only 35% of sites, while OpenGraph is used on 65% of resources.
What to do: Micromarking does not directly affect rankings, but it can improve CTR in search results by making snippets more attractive. Mark up important data on your site, such as address, photos, reviews, and opening hours, so they show up in search results.
Optimizing Title and Description tags on the home page only satisfies the requirements of 30% and 35% of sites, respectively. Errors include duplicate text, missing keywords, or excessive length.
What to do: Optimize the Title and Description on all pages of the site so that they are informative, contain keywords and do not exceed the optimal length. Make sure there is a single H1 heading on the page.
The overall number of reviews on private school websites leaves much to be desired, with the majority of schools having less than 10 reviews on Yandex and Google.
What to do: In order to get more reviews, ask clients to leave them in Yandex and Google. This can be done using QR codes on doors or through email newsletters.
The performance of most sites in the sample on desktops is rated as average, while on mobile devices 70% of sites have poor performance.
What to do: To increase the speed of your site, remove unnecessary plugins, fix errors in the code, use image compression and choose a faster hosting.
15% of websites are not adapted for mobile devices. 20% of sites do not have an SSL certificate, and 45% do not have clickable phone numbers or social media icons on mobile devices.
What to do: Ensure that the site works correctly on mobile devices, add links to phone numbers in the format “tel:+375...”, and also make sure that all interface elements are displayed correctly on mobile screens.
Make sure your website has feedback forms, such as a “Request a call” button or a form to schedule a consultation.
