Image cards are a way to notify Google about other images on your site, especially those that can be inaccessible to search (for example, images that are loaded using JavaScript). You can create a separate image map or add images map tags to your existing site map. Both options are suitable for Google.
Image cards are based on standard site maps, so the main recommendations for creating site cards are also applicable for images. We also advise you to follow the best practices when publishing images on your site.
An example below demonstrates a regular site map with an extension of an image map containing two elements <url>:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9" xmlns:image="http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap-image/1.1">
<url>
<loc>https://example.com/sample1.</loc>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://example.com/image.jpg</image:loc>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://example.com/photo.jpg</image:loc>
</image:image>
</url>
<url>
<loc>https://example.com/sample2.</loc>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://example.com/picture.jpg</image:loc>
</image:image>
</url>
</urlset>
Image tags are determined in the namespace space for images: HTTP: //VVV. GOGLE.K.M.SHemas/ Sytemap-Image/1.1
In order for Google to use your image card, you must use the following mandatory tags:
<url> may contain up to 1000 tags <image:image>.Sometimes URL images can be on another domain that is different from the main site. This is normal if both domains are confirmed in Google Search Console. For example, if you use the Content delivery network for hosting images, make sure that the hosting site is also confirmed in Search Console. Also, do not forget to check the Robots.txt file so that it does not block the indexation of the desired content.
The following tags and attributes were deleted from the documentation:
<image:caption><image:geo_location><image:title><image:license>To obtain additional information, see the ad of these tags.
