How to improve the AMP content for your site on Google Search

How to improve the AMP content for your site on Google Search

You can improve the AMP content for your site in Google Search by creating a basic AMP page by adding structured data, tracking pages and practicing with Codelabs.

Creating a basic AMP page for your Google site

  • Create your first AMP page.
  • Follow the Google Search recommendations for AMP pages.
  • Make your content available for search engines by adding links to pages. For scanning and indexing, Google Search requires an AMP page to contain a link to the canonical page. The canonical page can be either a regular version of the page or the AMP version itself. Additional information can be found on the developers blog "What is AMP URL?"
  • Make sure that users can get the same content and perform the same actions on the AMP pages as on the canonical pages.
  • Use the AMP Test Tool to check if your page meets the Google Search requirements for a valid amp.
  • Use the same marking of structured data for both canonical and AMP pages.
  • Apply the best content practices:
    • Make sure your Robots.txt file does not block the AMP page.
    • Use Robots, Data-Nosnippet and X-Robots-Tag metata, where necessary.
    • Follow the recommendations for Hreflang for language and regional URLs. For examples of using AMP, read the section Internationalization.

Creation of AMP page using CMS for your site in Google

If you serve your web content through the content control system (CMS), you can use existing plugins for CMS (for example, for WordPress, Drupal or Joomla) or implement your own functionality to create an AMP content. If you want to configure your CMS, follow these recommendations along with the creation of the basic AMP page:

  • Pay attention to how AMP files will fit into the URL URL circuit. If you create an AMP page in addition to the canonical non-amp page, we recommend choosing one of the following URL schemes:
    • HTTPS: //VVV. Example
    • HTTPS: //VVV. Example.M.M.P.
  • Develop a settings template for structured data. Here are a few recommendations:
    • Create a template based on the requirements for the type of content that you publish.
    • Watch examples of metadata for the AMP project, including recipes, articles, videos and reviews.

Optimization for advanced results in Google Search

You can use structured data to improve the visibility of your page in search results. AMP pages with markings of structured data can be displayed as advanced results, such as the Top Non-News carousel or the Khost-News carousel.

  • Improve structured data.
  • Check the correctness of the structural data parsing using the Rich Results Test tool.
  • Check your AMP page for Google Search using the AMP Test Tool.

Monitoring and improvement of the AMP pages of your site on Google

Periodically check all your AMP pages, tracking the following reports:

  • AMP status report: discover problems with site templates and other global implementation problems that can affect a large number of AMP pages of your site.
  • Reports on the status of advanced results: Identify problems with your structured markings and the ability to add additional structured data.

If you need to urgently update the Google AMP Cache to display the latest version of your content, refer to the "AMP Contain" section.

If you want to stop showing your AMP pages in the results of the Google search, follow the AMP removal instructions from the Google Search results.
