Expanding the site card is a great way to tell Google about various types of content and their metadata that you use on your website. Often content on your pages can be suitable for several types of extensions. For example, you can publish news articles that include images and videos. In addition, your pages can be localized, which means that you can add hreflang annotations for localized pages of your site.
For each expansion of the site card that you want to use, it is necessary to indicate the corresponding namespace space that announces supported expansion tags. This is done using the XMLNS attribute urlset tag. Namespaces for extensions of the site card that Google supports:
To declare several namespaces, add the appropriate links to the namespaces to your site card file, as described in the documentation of each extension. Here is an example of how to add news expansion, video and x (for hreflang) to the site map:
After you have announced the namespaces, follow the implementation instructions specified in the documentation for each extension of the site card that you will use.
To combine extensions, add tags for each of the extensions that you use one after another in the appropriate tag <url>, as described in the documentation of each extension of the site card.
