Hi all! I have been promoting websites in search engines for more than 6 years. Today I want to share my experience and talk about the mistakes that can lead to project failure. Make sure your site doesn't fall into these traps.
We will talk about information sites, since now I am actively developing in this direction. However, many of these errors are also relevant for commercial projects.
1. Ill-conceived site structure.
To successfully promote the project, it is necessary that the semantic core (key queries) be covered as widely as possible. It is also important to correctly distribute keywords across the main page, categories and articles of the site. Without this, there may be difficulties in promotion.
2. Duplicate pages and meta tags.
This is one of the most serious violations. The search engine is extremely critical of duplicates, merging pages or excluding them from indexing. As a result, your site may not receive traffic.
3. Incorrect keyword clustering.
A common mistake is when the same query includes several different keywords at once. For example, we are writing an article about building a foundation, but we are trying to squeeze in queries about strip, pile or column foundations, although each of these queries needs to create a separate, more relevant article.
4. Content for content's sake.
Many people believe that the more content on a site, the more traffic there will be. But that's not true. The quality of the content is more important. You can create one high-quality, useful article that will bring more traffic than a hundred superficial materials.
5. Overspam and over-optimization in texts.
Search engines have filters for over-optimization when keywords in the text are visible to the naked eye and their density exceeds the norm. Such texts, as a rule, are aimed not at people, but at search robots.
6. Ignoring the semantic core.
For a website to be successful, it is imperative to take into account the semantic core and key queries. The more keywords covered, the higher the chances of success. For example, I can enter dozens of keywords into articles without the risk of spam and sanctions from search engines.
7. Low-quality links.
If your site is linked to by low-quality resources, spammed links, or sites on prohibited topics, this may lead to sanctions from search engines. It is important that the link profile is authoritative for successful promotion.
8. Frivolous attitude towards the project.
If you think SEO is a quick way to get traffic, then this is not for you. SEO is suitable for patient people who are willing to work on website quality. Results do not come immediately, and only constant work on the project will lead to success.
I try to avoid these mistakes even before creating a website. I plan the project, draw up mind maps and only then start development. Thanks to this, 98% of my projects are successfully progressing and continue to grow.
