20 Best Actions for Your SEO

This list of SEO actions was compiled based on an article by Robbie Richards, prepared by Andrey Builov, and presents best practices for improving your site's ranking in search engines.

1. Do a technical SEO audit of your site using analysis tools like SEMRush or other crawlers like SiteAnalyzer. Correct any errors found.

2. Check for keyword cannibalization. This can be done by uploading data to a Google spreadsheet from tools such as SEMRush or Ahrefs. If you find pages that rank for the same keywords, follow these steps:

  • Redirect pages to a new one using a 301 redirect.
  • Remove less relevant pages.
  • If necessary, merge pages using redirects.

3. Identify pages with slow loading speeds using tools like SEMRush or GTmetrix. If there are many such pages, follow these steps:

  • Choose faster hosting.
  • Recompress the images if they are too large, or use a more suitable format.
  • Implement lazy loading for images and content.
  • Check your caching settings using plugins for your site.

4. Fix crawl errors using any crawler to ensure your site is properly indexed by search engines.

5. Find broken links on the site using a crawler and fix them.

6. Check the site for “thin content,” that is, pages with a small amount of text that do not cover the topic well. If such pages are found, improve their quality, delete them, or redirect them to more appropriate pages using 301 redirects.

7. Check for duplicate content. To do this, select pages that contain the same information and use the rel="canonical" tag or redirect them using a 301 redirect to the main page.

8. Increase in positions:

  • Select keywords ranked 6 to 20. Pay attention to queries with high conversion potential, high search volume, and low competition.
  • To improve the rankings of these queries, improve the content, add additional subtopics, and provide several internal links from authoritative pages on your site.
  • Use links from external sites, add mentions on social networks, and update the publication date and re-crawl the page in search engines.

9. Create positions based on your competitors' requests using a similar strategy.

10. Study your competitors' top pages and create similar ones to take their positions.

11. Find queries for which competitors have positions, but you do not, using the appropriate tools. Prepare content for these requests.

12. Use the collected queries to find popular questions related to them and integrate these questions into your content.

13. Optimize your content for “featured snippets” that appear in Google search results above the results.

14. Analyze search intent. If your search results in an article, create an article; if a listing, prepare a listing.

15. Create content for both SEO and people, such as using SEO assistant writing tools.

16. After publishing a new article, immediately create authoritative internal links to it from the strongest pages on your site.

17. Use Barnacle SEO tactics. Explore the pages of powerful sites like Quora and try to post information about your site on them, or improve the pages that already mention your topic.

18. Turn your brand mentions into active links. Find sites that mention your site and ask the owners to replace the mentions with links.

19. Mimic the link building strategy your competitors are using using link analysis tools.

20. Restore value from links leading to 404 error pages. Find pages with backlinks that point to error pages and create 301 redirects to the appropriate live pages.
